"I have to admit that before hearing "The Birthday Song" on the local blues station that I had never heard of Sammy Mayfield but that one song was enough to make me track down the man and the CD. Now that I have the entire CD and have had a chance to listen to the tracks I have to say that this guy is good, real good. He can do it all, sing, write and play the guitar. What more could you want from a bluesman? If you like modern day electric blues with strong vocals you will like this CD. I was reading the liner notes and surprissed to see that Mr. Mayfield is out of Denver, Colorado which is not the place you expect to find a strong blues following. In anycase the people of Denver are lucky to have a guy like this and I hope they appreciate the talent in him. I'm in LA and hope he might make it to the South West someday."

"This is a great standard blues album. Nothing fancy about it, just clean straight ahead blues. The title track Blues by the Bushel is really nice and there is a great blues birthday song.
For something that is standard blues, I keep playing it over and over, it may be standard but it is really good standard blues."

"A CALL FOR HELP
I have notice browsing the internet that "Sammy Mayfield" has had a lot of exposure from his recording "Blues By The Bushel " which I agree is a very good and solid produced CD. He also is a good person with a lot of talent. He has not been call on to perform on any major tours, summer blues festival, or college promotions that he needs so desperately. If anyone reading this review knows of major headliner acts or college student council's that would like to help, that will allow him (Sammy Mayfield) the opportunity to perform as the opening act I'm shore he would be very grateful. This CD is selling by word of mouth and sites such as Amazon since 1998. Sammy needs a second shot. He has been in the business to long helping others, locally in Denver, and as a sideman and bandleader for some major artist. If you are ever in Denver, Colorado you might find him and his blues revue in "Lower D" performing at Popular nite spot. Sammy host live and over the internet, the "All Blues Show" at www.kuvo.org two hours three (3) Saturday a month at 5:00pm Denver time. Hopeful in 2004 we can syndicated."
