CD ReviewsOne of the most experimental albums I've heard Fernando Hatsumura | Tokyo, Japan | 03/14/2005 (2 out of 5 stars) "This Free Jazz session features Cecil McBee on bass, Norman Connors on drums and Sam Rivers on piano, Sax, flute and screams. The Screaming solos remind me of Hermeto Pascoal. The flute solos remind me of Ornette Coleman and Hermeto. And the piano part reminds me of Cecil Taylor. One of the most tense and abstract jams i've heard. But I still prefer his "Contours" album, featuring Herbie Hancock, Freddie Hubbard, Ron Carter and Joe Chambers." A masterpiece of Improvisational power John S. Hilliard | Washington, D.C. United States | 06/05/2005 (5 out of 5 stars) "This recording is a single long piece by Rivers, he plays several instruments as the work progresses. His musical intuition is amazingly sustained here, holding together so many ideas, shaping the entire journey. It is a masterpiece of improvisational power.
Anyone interested in free jazz which is yet highly organized should own this great recording." |
