Synopsis

Album Description
2007 digitally remastered and expanded reissue of the Australian Punk band's 1978 album, their third, now featuring an additional seven bonus tracks, six of them recorded live in 1977. Never purposely fashionable, The Saints were Garage rockers caught up in the Punk scene, but their raw dirty sound fit perfectly into the Punk aesthetic.. This release is coinciding with a monumental occasion in Aussie musical history: the three surviving members of The Saints (Chris Bailey, Ed Kuepper and Ivor Hay) are reuniting for a one-off historical performance in Brisbane in July of 2007. 20 tracks. EMI.

CD Reviews

Once you've heard this, you can't live without it.

(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is a rarity in the mortal sphere - a perfect album. It's just astonishing how one great song follows another, without pause, for the entire run of "Prehistoric Sounds". And with variety!!! No two tracks are alike, and they are all amazing.

I'll set aside the bonus live tracks, which are just dandy but not essential, and concentrate on the original album here. First off, it's perfect. I know you heard that. Secondly, anyone thinking of incorporating a horn section into a hard rock/soul album should listen to this disc backwards and forwards. It's flawless. Textbook. Exemplary. Third off, there's just so much original, energetic, well-constructed, exuberant songwriting and performing here, that words fail me. Not a bad song in the bunch. The lyrical depth fits perfectly with the musical inventiveness. Sad to say the Saints never did better that I know of, but come on, once you generate something as well-formed as this, you may as well retire. Life's work - accomplished.

There is only one flaw with this album. It's so difficult to know whether to constantly push "repeat" at the close of each track, or move on to the next sonic nugget, which is equally good. Well, these are good problems to have."
