This is a great album. Different than earlier more acoustic focused productions by Ry, however, this album is a studio effort masterpiece. I bought this as a young teenager when it came out and it changed my ear and guitar focus. This sits as one of the most well work books on my bookshelf for the past 33 years and it sounds great still today.
From xx hundred cds in my collection this easily makes a top 10 list for me.

This album didn't knock me out upon first listen, and I haven't been compelled to come back to it yet. Given Cooder's history, I am sure there is some worthwhile music here, but it didn't grab me.

Terrific Album

"Just wanted to mention that, even if you have the excellent Rhino compilation... Bop Till You Drop still contains (at least) three songs not on said compilation that are super great tracks. In my opinion these three tracks are: The fabulously beautiful instrumental "I Think It's Gonna Work Out Fine," the hugely entertaining "Trouble You Can't Fool Me" and the overwhelmingly soulful "I Can't Win." So even if you have the Rhino complation, it's still a great idea to own Bop Till You Drop!

"Ry Cooder, one of his most popular records. Great tunes and back up singers."
One of the greatest guitar albums of all time.

"The brilliant Ry Cooder with the superb David Lindley perform one great, fun, potent song after another with the backup of some astonishing American singers, including Chaka Khan and Herman Johnson. Jim Keltner is the drummer. This is also one of the first digital albums and it is a soulful joy."
