Funk, Gospel and God: get you some of this
03/26/2002
(5 out of 5 stars)

"If you like funky/smooth R&B music like Zapp, as well as music that praises God, this is the funky CD for you! Rufus uses the talkbox made famous by Roger Troutman and makes some amazing funky gospel jamz. "Fight of Faith", "New Life" and "Drop Down" are super funky with big beats, great praise lyrics, and lots of talk box. Rufus deserves to be recording for a big label and I cannot wait for his next CD to hit. If you like the CD, check the web for the "New Life" remix CD from Shabak Records in Dayton, Home of the Funk. Also, check him out on the Commissioned CD "Time & Seasons"."
Gospel flava is here!

"Rufus Troutman III! Wow! What can I say? I accidentally stumbled upon this cd one day looking for older Roger Troutman material. I ordered it and I wasn't disappointed in what I heard from start to finish. I had read some reviews on the album before I purchased it and they were right. Rufus's sound is just like his uncle's sound except with a gospel flava to it. I have never seen him live but, I hope he would've started a tour with this album. He never did and that was sad to hear. The first track, "Work it out" has bits and peices of "So ruff, so tuff" in the song and that was neat to hear. "Grace" has the "More bounce to the ounce" feel to it. I also liked the song "Amazing grace (a tribute to Roger Troutman." "Fight of faith" lets us know that the battle field is rough and tough but the lord has his light shining down on us. I also like the fact that Samples of Zapp are used in the music. For instance, the sliding bass, and scratching sounds. I'm still trying to figure out where the Troutman family picked that up from. All in all, this is a great cd. If you want to find out what Rufus is doing, you can check out http://www.troutmansoundlabs.com and e-mail him. I hope he comes out with another cd very soon. It's been five years and there needs to be another gospel album!"
Just like uncle Roger

"Just like his uncle, Rufus plays the talkbox just like Roger did only with a hint of Gospel flow in the mix. I recomend this to any Zapp/Roger or Gospel fans & anybody wanting to search for the good ol'e eighties funk sound"
