"Scrolling through the various titles of works conducted by Maestro Kempe(1910-1976),it should be considered that this 2 disc set be quite a bargain. Several labels of reissues are becoming very pricey, when just a couple years ago they were offered as budget. The appeal to me, is the coupling of these great works that can be played simultaneously for two full hours of symphonic enjoyment. The Berlioz and Dvorak come from the EMI vaults 1958 and 1959, golden age of stereo. The "Sheherazade" dates from either 1967 or 1971. I'm not sure if Kempe recorded it twice with the RPO in a four year span or not.
The sound is adequately remastered throughout but requires adjustment if one desires fuller bass. No program notes or biography on Kempe is provided making this a half-hearted effort by the licensing company DISKY. Add a star if your a die hard for Rudolph Kempe! There are sure far better recordings of these works out there!"
