Rubén Blades is one of Salsa's most charismatic stars and a singer/songwriter who was key to the New York Salsa explosion of the 1970's. El Que La Hace La Paga is one of Blades' most accomplished solo albums and one of his last with Fania records. Rubén Blades revisits the classic Cuban son montuno via such glorious gems as "Lo Pasado No Perdona" and "Si Yo Pudiera Andar." Blades' compositional skills are evident in the hits "Para Ser Rumbero" and "Ganas." All seven tracks are eminently enjoyable. Rubén Blades' voice is in top form, especially in the bolero-son "Lo Pasado No Perdona." El Que La Hace La Paga earned Blades a Grammy nomination in 1983 for Best Tropical Latin. Well deserved!
