Synopsis

Product Description
The nickel-nine spitter, Royce Da 5'9" is back with The Album, the brand new studio album from M.I.C. Records and Traffic Entertainment. Royce is most known for the 2000 single "Boom," a DJ Premier-produced street banger or for his appearance on the Willa Ford hit, "I Wanna Be Bad"; however, he earned his rhyming stripes through his affiliations with Eminem and Dr. Dre. A fellow Detroit native, Royce was first introduced to Eminem while Slim Shady was selling his EP at a rap show and the two soon formed the rap duo Bad Meets Evil (Royce played the role of the Bad side). Teaming up on the 1999 The Slim Shady LP, they produced and then traded rhymes on the song "Bad Meets Evil" and went on to record the equally hyphy "Scary Movies," "Rock City," and others. Through his relationship with the 8 Mile resident , Royce has either beefed with, made appearances alongside, or ghost written for some of the biggest names in Hip Hop including Mobb Deep, Puff Daddy, Raekwon, Talib Kweli, Kanye West, Eminem, Dr. Dre, Joe Budden, and more. The Album follows up on 2007's The Bar Exam with 13 tracks and guest verses from Talib Kweli and Raekwon and production by 9th Wonder, Notz, Green Lantern, and more. Hard beats are combined with even harder rhymes as only Royce can deliver with cadence tighter than snare drum. With tracks like "Heat to the Streets," "Gun Music," "Bad Guy," and "Been Shot Down," The Album is not suggested for the weak at heart or stock car sound systems and is more appropriately enjoyed with a pair of 12" subwoofers and the windows rolled down. Royce Da 5'9" continues his flawless rhyme delivery and Detroit City swagger and proves why bad raps better than evil and why you will continue to "ch-ch-check his fresh."

CD Reviews

Better call somebody! Who but me?
T. West | WVC, Utah 801 | 11/14/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"First things first, in the editorial review it should be Jockin' his fresh, not "check his fresh." It's from Jay-Z's verse on the song Swagger Like Us. Royce is a beast, go support an independent artist and quit acting like a little baby. Buy this album! "Top off, girl in the front domein' me up, 'til my rocks off, either that or she gone get lock jaw. Stop, nah. She come up for air I'll cut her off like Jesse Jackson with a hand on Barack's balls. Ha, ahhh!" -Royce da 5'9""
Standing tall

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Royce may only be 5'9 but he stands head and shoulders above the competition. This album is even better than his first, which I love. Royce has got a solid gritty sound that doesn't try and be anyone else and has both street level soul and executive level sense."
Another 4.5 star album from Royce
G$ | B-More, MD | 02/19/2009
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Royce returns after 17 months with his 7th album, and another worthy of 4.5 stars, and possibly his best album of the 7. I'd say 4 of his 7 albums are 4.5 star worthy, 2 I'd give 4 stars and 1 I'd give 3.5 stars. There is not doubt that Royce is a very talented MC, and one of the most consistant out there, and his flow is unreal as well. On this one, you get 12 songs, 2 are ok, the other 10 are good, mostly real good songs, but no classic, just a bunch of real good songs. Guests are on 5 of the 12 songs. Production is very nice as well. Green Lantern does 4 songs, Carlos "6 July" Broady does 2 songs, Nottz, DJ Wich, Kon Artis, Black Milk, Pip, 9th Wonder all do 1 song. A must have album from a great lyricist.
