"This was one of the better compilations of the bands of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. This CD contains many tracks of the bands from RCA records done in the the early 1970s. The original "Amazing Grace" from the 1972 release heads off the mix. The CD transfer has retained the sound quality of the LP recordings, and since that was very good for the time, there has been no need to enhance it.
With almost 70 minutes the lister gets some of the best selections the bands recorded in those years. Three good pipe band medleys are included, as well as regimental music and concert pieces by the regimental band. Some very fine combined band and pipes music are featured, showcasing how the bands were experimenting with this novelty at the time.
All in all, a fine collection from these vintage years of the Scots Dragoon Guards and their famous bands. The listener should also note that the regimental band is no more, having been downsized in 1994. This makes these older recordings that much more special. Today, the pipes & drums soldier on without the band, and use keyboards and modern sounds to compensate. Here you get to hear these bands in their prime as they were charting new ground for the combined band and pipes sound. Classic stuff. Enjoy!"
