Product Description

A major musical figure of the twentieth century, Messiaen (1908-1992) created an entirely unique musical uvre in which such divergent elements as divinity, ornithology and the synaesthetic perception of sound as color are all interconnected. The Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra focused extensively on the music of Messiaen in its 2007-8 season, and this tribute disc features live recordings of works not only by Messiaen himself, but also those of his musical predecessors, students and disciples. George Benjamin studied composition with Messiaen.
