"I've been getting pretty tired of the ultra-negative comments of Roy's recent releases that have been more than fine in my book--but it seems there is a certain collective that cannot stand to hear Roy actually play a song or two and want only the constant reworking of his magnificient 'Songs from the South Island'. While I think Roy needs to let his music go whichever way it wants, no one can complain about this recent Drunken Fish release that in form mangages to replicate all that 'South Island' did, without being just a 'return to form'. The man definitely is not going to let us get away with a purely pastoral album, and there are definitely some more challenging passages here, but the end result is something really belongs in that same catagory of extended folk as John Fahey, Robbie Basho, Sandy Bull and many others that escape my memory right now. Thus what we have is a magnificient drifter that documents the other side of Roy when he isn't (heaven forbid) playing songs. Recommended."
