CD ReviewsGreat heavy progressive rock from Italy Cervello | 09/14/2005 (4 out of 5 stars) "A cymbal goes off, some frantic bass drumming and then the tight heavy theme takes off. What immideatly catches the attention is the pumping, hard melody. Here is the same furios power that was all over the previous album "La Bibbia". But this time the tracks are more progressive, more carefully arranged. After the somewhat disappointing "La Bibbia" this time the band sounds much more self confident, and with better production.
The instrument that sticks out the most here is the completely astounding work/sound of the bass player, using some of the meanest distorted fuzz I have ever heard. Otherwise its of course the fine interplay between the guitarist and bassist that shines all the time, with their melodies played with great powerful and RAW emotion. Speaking of emotion, the singer is really good to, avoiding the most significant heavymetal cliches in his vocal style. This is one of the greatest heavy progressive albums from Italy. Much heavier then other italian bands like Biglietto per l'Inferno or J.E.T. Although the raw and fresh riff from J.E.T's only album are similar in style in places, to this album. And its truly remarkable that these guys could deliever the classic album "Contaminazione" after this raw and heavy work. It just shows that they had the skills. A bad thing about the album, as have been mentioned in other reviews, is the short running time on about 29 minutes. But I am willling to overlook that, because I rather get 29 minutes of great music than 29 minutes + 15 minutes of below average melodies... Truly recommended." |
