Rossini Overtures with a light touch

"I really like Neville Marriner and the AMF -- they are excellent for Mozart, esp. "Eine Kleine Nachtmusik" or for Handel's Water Music. Marriner and AMF apply a lighter and sprightly touch on these famous Rossini overtures. The AMF certainly sounds graceful. However, I prefer a fuller orchestra sound and more rousing rendition for pieces such as "William Tell Overture" (especially the finale) and "The Thieving Magpie", which are two of my favorite overtures. The sound quality is not as spacious and resonant as other versions of Rossini that I own. I have to turn up the volume a bit in order to listen to the orchestra in full. If you like a bigger orchestra sound and a more exciting rendition of these pieces (esp. William Tell), I would recommend Fritz Reiner, Riccardo Chailly, Leonard Bernstein, and/or Herbert von Karajan.
