"Rory Block has an amazing voice for the blues: rough, throaty, mournful, bluesy and sweet. She's kind of Susan Tedeschi meets Bonnie Raitt, but then again she is all her own. On this live album (recorded in Germany in 1988) she does 20 unadorned basic traditional blues numbers (Walking Blues, Stagger Lee, That's No Way To Get Along), some by Robert Johnson, some by Mississippi John Hurt and Bukka White, as well as a few she wrote herself. They are all terrific, and are just simple blues: Rory accompanying herself on the guitar. If you like women singing the blues, this is one hell of an album, and if you don't like women singing the blues, well, you should give this album a listen and have your mind changed!"
