"When you are in front of a Steeplechase's catalogue's record in principle can be almost sure that is a good record and this Ron McClure's NEVER FORGET is not the exception. This Double Bass McClure is a follower of the great Paul Chambers - whom he replaced in the marvelous Winton Kelly's group before he formed his own group. In this record there is the participation of four Jazz giants as the trumpeter Eddie Henderson, the alto sax Vincent Herring, the pianist Kevin Hays and the drummer Bill Stewart all of them leading their own groups, getting a record with great interpretations. The open record track "Halfmoon again" is a theme that even flirts with Free-Jazz elements and you could think that we are in front of a Free- music record, nothing so far from the reality the remainder of the record is absolutely relaxed and controlled with magnificent interpretations. All the themes are of prominent Jazz but going to mention some of them I would say that "Lament for lost heroes", "Belle", "Hey new day" and "Illusions of..." are performed with mastery even I include the open track in this group. I give it 3,5 stars"
