Synopsis

Album Description
Described as "The Royal Family of the Guitar" Los Romeros celebrate 50 years as a guitar quartet in 2008. At the 2007 GRAMMY® Awards, Los Romeros were honored by the Recording Academy® with the President's Merit Award in recognition of their achievements. The story of Los Romeros started with Celedonio Romero (1917-1996). A self-taught guitar virtuoso, he taught each of his sons to play the guitar as soon as they were able to hold the instrument. Thus, Celin, Ángel and Pepe developed and brought the guitar to a global significance as individual soloists and as members of Los Romeros. The ensemble has commissioned and premiered new works and numerous arrangements over the past half century. This new compilation features recordings made over more than thirty years and features the ensemble as well as individual members of this remarkable family in a wide variety of original works and arrangements.

My deepest respect & salute to The Romeros

"I have been playing the classical guitar for 10 years now, and have been a fan of the Romeros - The Royal Family of the Spanish Guitar. This particular album is released to celebrate the 50th year anniversary of the Romeros Guitar Quartet, which definately is the most remarkable ensembles in musical history. The Romero dynasty begins with Maestro Celedonio Romero, born in 1913. At the age of three, Maestro Celedonio walked past a music shop with his mother and fell in love with the classical guitar at first sight and his mother had to buy it. Maestro Celedonio showed himself to possess an enormous talent for the instrument, at seven he studied with Daniel Fortea, who had been a pupil of Francisco Tarrega. He also subsequently recieved lessons from Joaqiun Turina. He made his debut at the Academy of Speech and Music in Malaga when he was eleven, following it, his debut in Madrid when he was fifteen. The Romero dynasty now spans three generations, his three sons, Celin, Pepe & Angel, all made their official debut by the age of seven, and now Celedonio's grandsons, Celino & Lito have joined the quartet. Not to mention, Pepe's son, which is now an established guitarmaker.

On this wonderful album, the Romeros generously included Vivaldi's & Torroba's concertos, Carmen Suite, Falla's Dances, Joaquin Rodrigo's Concierto Madrigal, the internationally acclaimed Concierto de Aranjuez and the concierto dedicated to Los Romeros, Concierto Andaluz. The Romeros also includes the patriach own compositions. I know some of the pieces on this album you may already have it, but I must give credit to the sound engineer because the recordings definately sound better on this album.

Maestro Celedonio's love for the music and his love for the guitar, to me, is unprescedented. His sons, Celin, Pepe & Angel, are all internationally acclaimed artists. Listening to Los Romeros is definately a pleasure that will ease away all your stress and discomfort, if there's any.

Maestro Celedonio passed away peacefully in 1996 and let us meditate deeply on his last words, "la guitarra... ".

"I own very good classical guitar CD collection. This record added some pieces like Rodrigo's "Concierto Andaluz" that are simply wonderful listening. The Romeros have a very well defined and clean style of playing . A nice addition to my collection."

"I saw the Romero Family perform with the Tucson Symphony Orchestra and wanted some of their recording to enjoy at home. My experience with the recording, the timely arrival of the CD and the ease I had ordering from Amazon were all excellent."
