"Universal Japan has issued three top selling Stones albums so far on their new SHM disc.A new material was developed by Universal and JVC to have their music pressed on, bust still costing the same as a 'normal' cd. These discs are said to have the best available audio quality. I did compare them to the SACD version released in 2002 and the Japanese DSD paper sleeve version released in 2006. Beggar's Banquet in this format is the best sounding cd ever available, better than the 2002 SACD version, hard to believe but true. For this release the DSD master was used , and for the first time music seems to come from the room, not the speakers. There is depth, there is spacing, Mick Jagger's voice is loose and clearly to locate. Location seems the right word to use. I have a Marantz SA15S SACD player hooked on an Accuphase E-308 Amp and Tannoy D-700 speakers. I tend to switch a lot between my Beggar's Banquet cd's, but this time it stayed in my cd player.
So the winning version to buy is 1. SHM cd from Japan 2. paper sleeve edition Japan[ get them while you can] and 3. SACD [ out of print]. Surprised? I was, at least!
