CD ReviewsRecommended Feller who likes Old Yeller | Webster, NY | 05/16/2002 (3 out of 5 stars) "Roland Guerin and his collaborators turn in tasteful, soulful, and appetizing performances on this recording of all original tunes by Mr. Guerin. Compositionally, the tunes are certainly competent and well-made, but are not particularly challenging, groundbreaking, or distinctive. One gets the feeling that Mr. Guerin was still searching for his own voice when this album was created. While Mr. Guerin does an admirable job on the bass and turns in a number of tasty solos, this is really not a bass album. This album is about Mr. Guerin as a composer and a bandleader. I heard him play with Marcus Roberts and he was fabulous in that capacity. Based on that experience, I would expect future releases from Roland to be more creative, inventive, and engaging." Hallelujah for the Winds of the New Land. Darren Davis | Chicago, Illinois United States | 12/08/2002 (5 out of 5 stars) "This recording is breathtaking. Honestly the compositions on this cd are well arranged, composed and offer a undeniable real spiritual journey. These are more than mere jazz tunes. These are praise and worship classics. When I listen to "I'm Crying Out" I find myself giving thanks to Jesus. The title masterpiece "Winds" is so well performed I find myself in deep meditation envisioning what the New Land will be like. "From That Moment On" is an extremely touching piece with a beautiful melody. I only wished it was a little longer. Fortunately where that ends "Happy Days" picks up. This cd has to be blessed by God cause it blessed me. I've seen Mr Guerin perform at Snug Harbor-New Orleans and with Marcus Roberts in Chicago. This guy has phenomenal chops and his writing is superb. Kudos Mr. Guerin"
