"Masterful work indeed..... Our man Williamson has a great ear for stories, welding them into works that are most certainly, I tell ye, his own. And a great voice for tellin' them, as well! What an amazing variety of characters pass us by, all with their own voice. Well worth your money, this. But ye must take your time to listen to this, ye must. For three of these wee stories take you as much as about three quarters of an hour down the paths of time. And ye must pay attention to ev'ry minute when travellin', ye must. For else ye might lose the plot an' all the rich detail of these Scottish tapestries of delight! So if ye're not fainthearted and love the roar of laughter of Rory Mor and the deceitful trickeries the gruagach plays on the fisherman's son, and wonder how fares prince dougie in his undertakings to win the swan maiden, buy this wee cd at once an' I promise you great journeys in the mind with this unlikely fellow Williamson. For a true wizard of words he is, ye know."
Nice to see these stories back

"Incredibly brilliant story-telling. Entertaining for children and adults. Clever reworking and merging of several traditional tales infused at times with anachronistic humor. It's a shame the original version of 'Prince Dougie and the Swan Maiden' is not here. It is far far better than the retelling on this new recording. But this one is 'no bad'. I seem to recall reading that the original recording was lost. Williamson is such a wonderful master of words. My children grew up hearing three of the four of these. 'Blind Raftery And The Jealous Hero' is new. Some of the lines are still family in jokes only understood by those who know Robin's stories; "...an, ye NEVER can TELL!", "He-he-he-he, just one drop more won't hurt ye", "Excuse me if I'm protruding dee-ah!", etc."
