Synopsis
Album Description Robin has a very simple reason for his new solo record, after 17 years there is so much material that inspired and excited him, he thought it was about time to release at least a small amount of it. All who love his unmistakable voice are yearning to finally hear the new album. The new longplay 'Magnet' has been produced in Los Angeles and London. Robin chose Deacon to produce (well known for his success with K-Ci & JoJo, Mary J. Blige, Keith Sweat and Hinda Hicks). The record contains tracks written by Robin, Barry and Maurice, as well as other songwriters favored by Robin. Influenced by soul music, Robin decided to combine this with the magnificent lyrics and lush melodies which are his trademark. On the new album you will find all these elements in abundance plus some old tracks, which have been updated. SPV. 2003. Similar CDs |
CD ReviewsNot the best....want to know why?? Middletails | Canada | 03/25/2006 (2 out of 5 stars) "I actually bought this CD a few years back when it was first released. I looked at the credits before actually popping the CD into the the player and noticed that with the exception of the BG remakes, they were mostly written by other people! I'm not sure why he let other people write the songs since he's completely capable to write his own songs. So what gives? I do not reconize any of the song writers credited on the CD and gee...I wonder why?? The song writing is terrible and the production is even worse. Most of the time Robin's vocals are drowned out by medicore backing vocals. Poor song writing doesn't help here. Did I mention the songs were terrible?? The remake of Another Night in NY is a droned out, boring remake and the original wasn't my favorite either. Please is a great song to fall asleep to when you're having a bad case of insomneia. Advice? Robin, re-release your older solo efforts! This shows your real talents, not this CD!" This is absolutely AWFUL! V. Rogers | 05/31/2006 (1 out of 5 stars) "He may have started the joke, but nobody should be laughing. It's just too weird....please note that on ebay these CDs don't bring 30 cents. It's that bad. This guy could have matched vocal wits with Roy Orbison, but doesn't seem to care. When I think of all of the cover songs that he could have redefined...please write to Robin and let him know. And, my dear Robin, I still love you, but PLEASE do your audience the favor of once again changing direction!" Don't buy, treat yourself to a good movie instead! Longtime Gibb Fan | 01/17/2006 (1 out of 5 stars) "Robin has stated over and over he is a songwriter first, then performer. He should have sat down and penned some songs instead of attempting to make this album with songs he just ruined.
This album is not a Bee Gees sound or feel. He took Andy's song, which should have been left alone, and just destroyed it. I really have no idea why he felt the need to make this horrible album. It would have been nice if he would have stayed in Miami and worked with his brothers and created an album worth buying. He just doesn't have it to stand on his own. Plus he needs to start writing songs instead of trying to sing Bee Gees hits that he really can't do justice to. Wake up Robin, you brag about your songwriting ability, let's see it." |
