Synopsis

Album Description
Robin & Linda Williams' music, a mix of bluegrass, folk, old-time country and gospel, has defined the sound of public radio's A Prairie Home Companion. They've long been among Garrison Keillor's favorite guests for the 30+ years of the show - so much so that frequent listeners consider them "regulars." They were featured performers in Robert Altman's 2006 major motion picture based on the show. A Prairie Home Companion has been such an important part of their musical career, it is fitting that the Williams' first true retrospective is a collection of live performances on the show. Culled from their on-air appearances over decades, RADIO SONGS includes original favorites and cover songs by some of their songwriting heroes, including The Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, Charlie Poole and Lefty Frizzell. Digging deep into their personal catalog, they include songs dating back to 1977 ("Restless One") to tunes never recorded, like the often requested "50,000 Names," which was originally worked up for a special Memorial Day show. Other highlights include down-home country tune "Things I've Learned," the nostalgic World War ll-era song "We'll Meet Again," and the comedic radio advertisement for "Marvin & Mavis Smiley - Down Home Diva." In addition to working with Keillor, Robin & Linda crossed paths with many wonderful musicians, many of whom are represented on the new CD - Mike Seeger, The Hopeful Gospel Quartet, Mountain Heart, Peter Ostroushko, The Guy's All-Star Shoe Band and the Williams' own critically acclaimed Fine Group. Showcasing the duo's humor, warmth and raucous roadhouse sensibilities, Radio Songs is a unique retrospective of one of the most enduring and energetic roots music acts of our time.

Radio Songs done to perfection

""Radio Songs" is another fantastic CD by Linda and Robin Williams. They have succeeded once again in giving the best of their talents. Each song has been performed on the radio and this CD is like going back in time to a day when radio was prominent in every home. Of special note is their acoustic rendition of "50,000 Names" which is a hanuting song about the Vietnam War Memorial Wall. This CD should be in your collection of Americana music. Well worth every penny!

Another Great Robin & Linda CD

"Robin & Linda have been turning out classy and enjoyable CDs for decades now. This new one is another consistently good product. R&L mix folk, bluegrass, country and other influences into their playing and put out a set that features many different moods and types of songs, so there is a great variety to the listening experience. Great lead vocals, great harmony singing and fabulous instrumental backing from accoustic pickers makes this CD a winner. Nice cameos by Mike Seeger, Peter Ostrusko and others, but the guests are not the focus--Robin & Linda are. These cuts were all taken off the live radio shows they have done for A Prarie Home Companion."
