Robert Pete Williams: A Unforgettably Poignant Singer

"This compilation is probably the best of Robert Pete Williams. One song in particular, "Motherless Children Have a Hard Time", is lyrically raw and visceral, yet complex in guitar delta blues finger picking unique to the artist. He manages to do in that song what Jimi Hendrix did in "Machine Gun": paint a bleak and hopeless picture of a doomed life ahead. This artist is one of those rare figures in the blues world who manages to elicit feelings of genuine sadness and tragedy rather than cathartic happiness. When you are done listening to this album you will have taken a harsh ride through the delta and you will have to lie down on the sofa and ruminate for a while."

"This is a reissue of the album Louisiana Blues. Also my favorite of his recordings. The tracks were recorded in 1966 and produced by John Fahey for his Tacoma record label. The LP sleeve included some very interesting notes by the late Alan Wilson. Too bad they're not included here."
