CD Reviews

Not a keeper for the Glenn Hughes fan

"It really is too bad there was no information at all on this CD before I bought it. A new Downes/Hughes collaboration could be good. But this isn't new at all. The first disc titled The Collection is a Geoff Downes compilation. Many years ago I bought his first New Dance Orchestra album on vinyl but his solo work doesn't interest me enough. Glenn sings on two tracks on this compilation, "The Video Killed The Radio Star," which is nice but I already have it on a Glenn Hughes compilation, Ultimate Hughes Volume 1. The second song is "Don't Walk Away" from The Work Tapes. The second song becomes redundant considering the second disc is The Work Tapes in its entirety. I'm an enormous Glenn Hughes fan, with about 70 CDs on which he has contributed, but The Work Tapes, a collection of early-90's demos when Glenn was pondering a soul pop career (I am SO glad he didn't go that direction!) was so bad that it's a Glenn Hughes disc that I actually got rid of. Now I have it again. As a result here's another set with Glenn Hughes that I'm going to get rid of. I hope this review helps other Glenn Hughes fans from making this same mistake that I did. I can't really judge it for Geoff Downes fans. For them bear in mind it's a compilation, not a new live album and The Work Tapes was more of a Glenn Hughes vehicle."
