CD Reviews

Ringo hits her stride
J. P. DuQuette | Shizuoka, Japan | 09/14/2003
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Motherhood seems to have done wonders for Ms. Ringo. Not content to be J-pop's most controversial alterna-diva, Shina here does a lot of weird covers from the 60's and 70's, sounding more and more like a demented Japanese hybrid of Bjork and Radiohead. Sure there are a one or two tracks that don't have much of an edge, but the majority of this two CD set is pure psychedelic-electronic-jazz-punk genius. Her follow up, Karuki Zamen Kuri no Hana, is even better!"

"I have bought this CD not here, but over in Japan on the first day it was out. Don't forget - this album placed itself on the top of the ORICON chart soon after it was out for purchase! This album is a must-buy for all Shiina Ringo fans and those who are interested in INDIE music. Her blending of deep or high vocals, clashing of the sounds of different instruments had come to create this wonderful album. I can listen to it for 50 million times a day and still not get bored. Get this- you won't regret buying it."
