CD Reviews

Very Strong Album
Tom Sawyer | United States | 12/22/2007
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I kept hearing a great song on the break music mix at Progpower this year. It was from this album so I bought it. This is a very solid album-one of the few in this genre that song after song does not disappoint. Very good writing , production , musicianship. Some of the best chorus work I have heard ever. Guitar and drums are very solid as well. This band is not too over the top like so many of this type of band can be. I have listened to this one a lot-more than most. Not a song on the album I skip over. Buy it. Heavy!"
Incredible Power/Prog Metal
B. E. Nickerson | Amesbury, MA United States | 08/07/2008
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I actually got into these guys from one of my 8th grade students at the school I teach at. At first I was like...ok an 8th grader recommending music...should be interesting. But after listening all the way through, pleased to say these guys are totally tight and solid. Their lyrics are strong have a clear and touching direction. The songs that are complex and interesting without being too showy or meandering like other bands who think just cause you play fast means you're talented as a composer. The length of songs is perfect (most clocking in around 4 min). I have no problem with long songs but so many bands want to fill every track with 8 and 9 minute epics it becomes exhausting and overly dedicating to enjoy the album. The riffs are solid and hard driving and the drums are true Prog double-bass power without taking from the guitar or vocal parts.

The vocalist is clear and strong but has strength and conviction to his performance. At first I thought somewhere between a Chris Cornell (Soundgarden, Audioslave) and Thomas Englund (Evergrey) with a little Khan (Kamelot) when he goes higher.

The mix of this album is to be truly commended. For a debut album, every part is crystal clear and put together perfectly. Also check out the booklet for Symphony X Paradise Lost-esque artistic vision.

Really a great album, especially for a debut!"
