Atomic pop-punk from down south

"I used to think the only thing "punk" coming outta Texas was Bowling for Soup...Until, of course, I bought "hurry up and wait". It's a pretty awesome debut, If I do say so myself, and it doesn't mind being actually more pop than punk (which is always good in an age where being "real punk" is more important to some than life itself). The guitar work is cool, but nothing outstanding, and the music is pretty catchy too. At first, the songs didn't really stick, but after a while, they grew on me like crazy, and HUAW practically never left my CD player. However, not everything is great about HUAW. Some of the songs have less than steller chorus', and the vocalist is a bit too low pitched for my tastes. But then again, those are all just MY opinion and have no real reflection on the CD itself. So take my advice, if you like Bowling for soup or other talented pop-punk acts, you'll enjoy Riddlin' Kids."

Melodic but harder than pop punk

"I don't like most bands categorized with the phrase "pop punk." I've heard "melodic punk" used to describe the Riddlin' Kids, and it's closer to the truth. They rock harder than pop punk, and with the exception of the single "I Feel Fine," the punk edges out the pop. Some songs reflect the positive aspects of relationships, but most deal with failed relationships. These go beyond simplistic recounts of events and recognize underlying patterns and emotional impacts while still maintaining a rather positive view, all of which helps to give the band more lyrical depth than a lot of their punk-ish peers. "Wasted Away," about a lonely and isolated girl in a small town who dreams of something better and is "praying for a time when she doesn't hate her life," is one of my favorite tracks. Overall the album is upbeat, full of energy and made me a huge fan of the Riddlin' Kids. I've already recommended the band to many of my friends."

Pop-punk?

"I've had trouble trying to understand the Riddlin' Kids sound label lately. Punk influences abound, definitely, but Blink 182? I see the perspective behinf the opinion, but the fact of the matter is, the Riddlin' Kids, without a doubt, have their own unique, somewhat-grinding sound that drives like an SUV on the highway. The Riddlin' Kids are a solid group, and though yes, their lyrics instantly bring to mind "relationship woes syndrome," Riddlin Kids' driving tempos, solid, though non creative guitar playing, and the lead singer's growl-esque characteristic to his sound set them aside from mediocre pop-punk bubbles produced by MTV. A solid, good 'ol rock band for your average joe who wants a band to casually rock out to. Whether or not they're lyrics are repetitive, and whether or not they have image issues, Riddlin' Kids are a decent bunch, and hopefully their future albums will better showcase the inner creativity I know they posess."
