Second of two hits collections

"This is the second of two budget compilations that between them contain all of Ricky's essential recordings except his number one country duet with Dolly Parton (Rocking years). As I explained in my review of the first volume, this is also an ideal companion to the full-priced compilation Greatest hits plus. Three tracks are duplicated but the other seven are well worth listening to.

Here you will find two of his twelve number one country hits (nine of the others are on the first volume) and the best of his other solo music. The songs here are mainly originals but include fine covers of the pop classics Wear my ring around your neck (Elvis Presley) and Oh pretty woman (Roy Orbison), the first-named song having been recorded for the soundtrack of Honeymoon in Vegas.

The two number one hits (both brilliant) are Living proof and I meant every word he said. The excellent title tracks to two of his albums (Wild-eyed dream, Backroads) are also here along with other wonderful songs such as Hole in my pocket and Life's little ups and downs.

Overall, this is not as strong as the first volume but it is still a very strong collection. Even so, you may decide to start with this if you can't decide to pair it with the first volume or Greatest hits plus."
