"A week or so ago, when ordering "Best Of" albums by Poco and Pure Prairie League, just on a lark I typed in "Rick Roberts". For years I had bemoaned what I assumed to be the fact that "Windmills" had not been produced on a CD. I had missed hearing some of the great songs on that album that I used to enjoy so much in the mid-70s. To my delight I discovered it was being offered as half of a double CD. I ordered it and received it a few days ago.
To be perfectly honest, and this may seem an odd endorsement, personally I only really like about 5 of the songs out of the 19 contained it the set. That being said, those 5 to me are more than worth the price for the 19 (and this is only representative of my personal tastes....other listeners may understandedly disagree with good reason). In fact, I'd have gladly paid the full price just to get "In a Dream". When I heard that song again after nearly 30 years the memories flowed. The addition of "Deliver Me", "Davy Mcvie", "In My Own Small Way", and "Sail Away" were the icing on the cake. The lyrics and tunes are timeless.
I'm telling nothing to those like me who first listened to these songs years ago, but there are those out there who have yet to hear them. And to you, know that you are in for a real treat."

"Rick Roberts came to my attention via the Flying Burritos , he was the singer after Gram left . Rick's songwriting prowess lifted the remaining Burritos from a good band to a great band and when he left to go solo it was the real end for them. Windmills is stronger than She is a Song (probably due to the inexperience of the latters producer) but the songs are all shining examples of the West Coast Country idiom before the Eagles polished it out of existence. The session players are all top musicians and the songwriting is up there with the best. Sail Away is simple but a tour de force from Bass player Leland Sklar (who effectively plays lead throughout this beautiful song) and Jenny's Blues as good as anything JD Souther wrote."

"If you like classic country rock you will not be disappointed by this CD. It is a who's who of early 70s country rock."
