"as writer,arranger,producer,vocalist,etc.. in a fair world his talents would get far more love this two-disc set shows the power and complexity in the funk of Rick James. he is from my home town of buffalo,ny and to me the best artist to come from there. from You and I to the thumping bass of Mary Jane the mind-boggling duet with Lady soul Lady Teenia Marie on Fire and desire to standing on the top with the temps to the vibes of Roy ayers on dance wit me rick gives horns, bass, strings, flutes, and the mighty stone city band. his come and get it, street songs, throwin down, cold blood and Urban rapisody are must haves. he fell off a lot after 84 he really hit big with the Mary jane girl's, eddie murphy and the over-looked val young also process and the doo rags. but with urban rapisody he is back on his own records standing tall. while having hits with everyone else is cool there's nothing rick's own albums to groovy to and this set puts alot of things in check. the styles and his vision. he deserves some major props. cuz he played real music with real instruments unlike many of the busters of todays music."

rick james. he's everything they said and more. actually, i'm

"All his good stuff.I always liked "Hollywood" from his first LP
but it was not included on this cd.Rick is a gifted vocalist
and musician who new how to get a party going. The cd also includes an informative booklet that gives a bio and background on songs and bandmates.

"Being a long time Rick James fan, I consider myself an authority when it comes to the best of the 'Punk-Funk King's' catalog. I purchased the "Anthology" CD and although this collection consisted of 28 of Rick's finest recordings, there were still some tracks that in my opinion, were too essential to be excluded from a Rick James compilation. Well, the tracks that were missing from the "Anthology" I've found in "Bustin' Out: The Very Best Of Rick James"..."Ghetto Life" (which is one of Rick's most powerful musical statements) "Dream Maker" (one of the most soulful ballads from Rick's early career) the full length version of "17" and a version of "You Are My Starship" that rivals Norman Conner's version. Between the 2 of these compilations "Bustin' Out" is the more comprehensive overview of this most accomplished and complex musical artist. R.I.P."

"Rick James definitely bought something different to the music industry some 30 years ago in a good way of course. This is about as good as it gets far as a greatest hits collection goes with this man. But i still feel like the true music fans of this artist, including myself is being cheated a little bit. Why don't Motown stop jiving around and go ahead on and release Rick James other individual albums on cd. Can you say stuff like "Fire it Up, Garden of Love, Throwin' Down, Cold Blooded and Reflections". This were some very nice recordings by the 80's funk master. Rick James was a true musical genius and his songs will forever live on. Do the right thing and release those mentioned titles above."
