CD Reviews

Richard Tee: Gone but not forgotten
Anthony Accordino | Massapequa Park, New York United States | 12/30/2000
(4 out of 5 stars)

"The late Richard Tee was one of the most gifted and sought after keyboard players on the music scene during the 1970's and 1980's. He was co-founder of the super session jazz/rock fusion group stuff. His piano playing can be heard on many records by Paul Simon, Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles, Joe Cocker and Grover Washington JR just to name a few. "Real Time" his final album prior to his unfortunate passing proves to be very catchy from beginning to end. His take on on such tunes as "That's the way of the world" and "Take the A train" are worth the price of the cd alone. Anyone who loved his music will find the track "Gone To Soon" both sad and touching, which comes through as a very fine farewell to a much respected musician. He gets fine support from fellow Stuff members Eric Gale and Steve Gadd. Also contributing are Will Lee, Ralph MacDonald and Ronnie Cuber. It's unfortunate that "Real Time" remains his only album in print domestically. I recommend looking for the following imports[usally Japanese]"Strokin", "Natural Ingrediants" and "Richard Tee Plays Richard Tee The Best". Also see "The Right Stuff" and "The Gadd Gang which is available domestically. I enjoyed listening to his music over the years and I'm certain you will too."
A long cool groove
John Engstrom | Dublin, CA | 06/03/2005
(5 out of 5 stars)

"I just purchased this CD, after finally locating a copy (import only). It grooves from first track to last, but the instrumentals are better than the few tracks with vocals, as RT is a good vocalist, but a superb pianist. There is a reason he was in such demand as a session player.

For those of you unfamiliar with his work, think of a cross between Bob James with soul and what Oscar Peterson would sound like had he been born a generation later.

Get this album AND anything you can find by his group, Stuff."
