CD Reviews"The Best Thing" is the best thing 12/14/1999 (5 out of 5 stars) "Richard Page has combined his longstanding, tried-and-true talents as singer and songwriter with his first rate lyric-writing to create an album of unforgettable songs. That it was not released long enough for his many fans to hear it is indeed a misfortune. No doubt it would have climbed to the top of the charts as did the singles "Broken Wings" and "Kyrie" both recorded with his mid-80's band, Mr. Mister (on the album titled "Welcome to the Real World"). Alas, corporate quibling over unrelated interests resulted in the entire Blue Thumb label being dropped just as this gem was released. Those few of us lucky enough to have the cd are incredulous that so much inferior 'ear candy' passes as talent, when such fine music lays nearly dormant. Richard Page combines his keen ear for subtle jazz with sophisticated, yet memorable melodies. The refrain of the title song ought to be featured as the theme song of some screen play.... "I just needed to remember what your love has meant to me... you get all the good things in this life for free.... and you're still the best thing that ever happened to me." The BEST THING would be for some savvy distributor to pick this title song and the rest of the album up and run with it. From lyrics to melodies to harmonies to performance, it outscores most anything out there."
