Synopsis

Product Description
A gifted singer/songwriter from the burgeoning New York City "Living Room" scene that has spawned Norah Jones, Jesse Harris, Shasha Dobson and others, Richard Julian demonstrates a talent for strong melodies and his own distinct sound. Well known for his slice-of-life stories, he counts Randy Newman, Bonnie Raitt and Norah Jones (with whom Julian performs in the New York-based country band the Little Willies) among his legion of fans. On GIRLS NEED ATTENTION, song after song resonates with exquisite structure, passionate guitar playing, and rhymes that would make even Paul Simon take notice.

CD Reviews

Magical record!
Peter Lasker Scherr | Hong Kong | 05/08/2010
(5 out of 5 stars)

"This is a magical record. It speaks to me. Seductive mood... Richard Julian's scenes spring to life from a very few well-chosen words. His singing is soulful, and unaffected. The music is very economical, yet sophisticated. Somehow earthy at the same time. I love the melodies and rhythms.

The sound of the record is gorgeous. Producer Lee Alexander did an amazing job. The arrangements are very effective, lifting the music to thrilling peaks. There are a lot of nice instrumental touches, like Marcus Rojas' tuba on Georgie. The rhythm sections have great movement; the guitar playing is fantastic.

But the main thing is that this one just draws me in and keeps me there. I have a feeling this is one of those records I am going to turn to for sustenance for a long long time. Pick it up! -and while you are at it, get Slow New York. It's great too."
