We wanted this to be a musical experience for the whole family, something that would capture the imaginations and hearts of children and adults alike, says Bixler, Parents Choice Award winner for Moon Food. She met Chad Smith while teaching music classes to his train-loving toddler Cole, and unlikely but charming musical connection clicked.
Chad Smith has so many facets, says Bixler. Along with his virtuoso drumming, he s a great singer, has a
really funny comedic animated style and great production ideas! He had so much to do with this process. You
can really get to know him on this album, as a kid, a father, and a monster talent.
The last component to complete the trinity is the eternally beloved Dick Van Dyke, who brings an incredible amount of energy to Rhythm Train with roles as his rappin alter-ego DVD and ballet-dancing pirate. I know that good kid music is tough to write, says Van Dyke, and Leslie writes the best I've ever heard.
Rhythm Train is a riotous collection of songs for kids and their adults that allows listeners to travel around the world, back in time, and off to magical lands. Their songs take listeners on a virtual train trip, making station stops in Africa, Australia, and prehistoric times, capturing the atmosphere and sounds of a variety of musical styles.
The tunes gently expose listeners to basic music theory the ways different beats can change the feeling. Kids respond immediately to rhythm, Bixler says. It focuses and energizes them and helps them learn all sorts of
things. It's a love they re born with. We just want to cultivate it and make it stronger.
Portions of the proceeds from this album will benefit Partners in Health, a non-profit medical relief organization
that has been on the ground in Haiti for 20 years, and Children s Hospitals around the country.
