CD ReviewsBon musique alison | Oberlin, Ohio | 03/06/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "This is good dark moody ambient music. I like the flange-y sounding beats" Greater than the sum of its parts Matthew D. Mercer | Chicago, IL United States | 07/10/2000 (5 out of 5 stars) "New Hampshire-based Horchata and Kent, OH-based Twine have teamed up for this remix project. Resource includes 2 tracks from each artist (Horchata's tracks taken from his album Integral, Twine's tracks exclusive to this release). The stylistic differences between the artists are fairly obvious when listening to the opener "Soil" from Horchata and comparing it to the Twine tracks. While Horchata focuses on dark, moody ambience on "Soil" and "Wind", Twine opts for a glitchy Cologne-influenced track ("Center") and a cut-up drum & bass influenced track full of warped samples ("Sindl"). However, it is only really in the remixes that these artists soar. Horchata has done an impeccable job cutting apart and reconstructing the Twine tracks, taking them to a higher level. Twine on the other hand has strayed even further from the point of origin with Horchata's tracks, turning "Wind" into a nightmarish hurricane and lengthening "Soil" from a short, melodic opener to an epic piano mantra, one which continues on a looped delay for an extra 10+ minutes at the end of the release. Despite the nature of the release, being remixes of new and/or previously available material from two rather different recording artists, the results work surprisingly well as an album rather than a collection of one-off tracks and mixes. Recommended."
