"Yes, the packaging is sumptuous, and yes, the contents are wonderful. BUT - nowhere in any of the marketing information does Decca mention that the CD's are a straight reissue of the 2002 compilation "The Great Renata Tebaldi"! The only clue is a small entry on the back cover, where it shows the original publish date of 2002. So if you already have "The Great Renata Tebaldi" and don't need all the fancy binding and photos and discography, there's no reason to buy this one."
A Fabulous Tribute to a Great Soprano.

"Decca says that this de luxe edition is a 'limited edition'; if that's true, there is absolute urgency to grab this at your earliest opportunity.
The album contains two CDs, coming with a booklet of 60 odd pages, each page containing pictures (in colour) of one LP of Tebaldi issued with Decca since the early 1950's until her retirement. Terribly informative in terms of her discography, as well as absolutely beautiful, since the pictures show Renata at her prime, solo or with others like Corelli, di Stefano, del Monaco...ALL AT THEIR PRIME.
Back to the CDs - the first is dedicated almost solely to verismo composers, principally Puccini, with Tebaldi's signature roles all in them, some in duets and trios, with tenors and basses like Siepi, del Monaco, Poggi, and Mariano Caruso ...The second CD is mainly on Verdi, with a few other composers that are non-Italian.
While I am not the biggest Tebaldi fan in Verdi, her verismo I would dare say are unsurpassed. These dual discs capture her in her prime, and the sonics offered by Decca are nothing less than pristine mono sound.
No reason to wait any more but to grab this!"
