Synopsis

Product Description
Regie Hamm's journey over the last 10 years has had all the twists, turns, and drama of a Hollywood movie. Only this wasn't Hollywood, and the cast weren't actors. A hit artist, producer, and songwriter, Regie Hamm has penned over 20 #1 hits, many of them in the Christian market. He hit the Top 20 as an artist on the pop charts, and he saw his self-written song "Time Of My Life" stay at #1 for 4 months on the pop charts. Oprah called it the "theme song of the 2008 Summer Olympics," and David Cook announced that with the song, Regie had hit a chord with people.
But the real story is Regie's personal journey. He was raised in Pentecostal churches, tent revivals, and all night singings. Feeling born to create music, he experienced unprecedented success in the music industry in the 90's with Grammy and Dove nominations, and winning SESAC's Songwriter of the Year award four different times. But nothing would prepare him for the drama he would face in adopting a little girl from China, discovering her severe genetic disorder, and feeling helpless as he watched a life and a career spin out of control. Regie's story is one of a man and his family overcoming enormous obstacles -- a journey that would test not only his physical resources, but his faith. It is the rise, the fall, and the ultimate surrender of a man to God's will, and the powerful journey that brought him full circle.
His new single "Set It On Fire," came to him during a recent photo shoot that involved the burning of a piano. "As the piano burned, I began singing a chorus. I didn't sing it as something that might someday be a hit song. I didn't try to sculpt it or shape it or make it into anything other than a prayer. As I travel the road laid out before me, I keep it close and know that it is a prayer from the purest place in my heart. My piano ultimately burned to the ground ...so be it ..."
Regie's amazing journey is chronicled with his new CD, Set It On Fire, releasing from Tate Music Group.
CD includes the original version of the smash #1 hit "Time Of My Life" in its original form.

"Prime Cuts: Leave Something Beautiful Alone, Don't Know Much About Love, Orphan's Lullaby

Piano men who sing are rare now. Joining in the legacy of music greats such as Elton John, Joshua Kadison and Stevie Wonder, Hamm's musical mettle of the choice is what sets him apart. Further, Hamm has had a portfolio of scribal success including penning hits for David Cook ("Time of My Life"), Point of Grace ("You Are the Answer"), Clay Crosse ("Arms of Jesus"), Tracy Byrd and Bob Carlisle("Lately"), Avalon ("The Glory") among many others. Naturally, Hamm showcases his writing prowess again by penning all save for one which he co-wrote with Billy Kirsch ("Pictures of People I Love"). And unlike many albums of singer-songwriters, each track here retains its own identity without falling into the perennial trap of having all the songs sounding alike. Though Hamm has a significant role in the creation of music in the Contemporary Christian Music world with a long line of artists vying for his songs, "Set It on Fire" isn't precisely a contemporary Christian record. Rather, it's a CD about life that often intermingles with issues that have to do with faith as God is a vital part of this Pentecostal Christian singer-songwriter.

If you are looking for some heart tugging moments look no farther than the ballad "Orphan's Lullaby." A first person narrative about what it means to live in Saint Luke's Orphanage, this is just a moving piece backed by some gorgeous piano riffs. "Leave Something Beautiful" is another one of those epic ballads that name checks worldly monuments such as the leaning tower of Pizza to Mona Lisa underscoring a message of appreciating the beauty that we have. Slightly more upbeat with more flourishes of the electric guitar and done with equal relish is the newly-penned original "Don't Know Much About Love."

One thing that is to be commended about Hamm's song writing is that he is not into superficial non-descript love songs even his attempts at giving soundtracks to romance are unique. On the guitar-driven rockfish "Full Circle" Hamm writes like a pro when it comes to relationships. Describing the ebbs and flows of love, there's something very realistic in his description. Recalling Joshua Kadison's "Beau's All Night Radio" is the jazzy-blues "Starlight"--so wryly romantic. Hamm does delve into his soul to express his deep seated convictions about God in the swampy "The Water is Free." Telling the Biblical stories of how God's grace triumphant in the trials of Adam and Moses is indeed soup for the soul. Also, quite liberating is the title cut "Set It Free" which is about burning away our pretences and past failures.

As a bonus cut, Hamm has thrown in his own take of American Idol's David Cook "Time of Life" (which Hamm wrote). Though Hamm adds little new to it but despite its smash status--it pales in comparison with the other songs. Life - in all its arrays are captured and depicted splendidly on these cuts. Thanks to Hamm's superior scribal craft--there's not a single soporific moment and the ballads are the killers here.
