Synopsis
Album Description John Felice started his career as a member of the Modern Lovers. In the early 70's he started his own band, The Real Kids. The Real Kids were for a brief time a very catchy combo, mixing pop and furious rock 'n roll 50's style with a punk attitude. They were the best band to come out of Boston and it's surroundings. This reissue collects their best songs including, 'All Kindsa Girls' & 'Outta Place'. |
CD ReviewsCool DJ MR Smith | 07/24/2002 (4 out of 5 stars) "I found this in my dads collection,it rocks, but the 3rd segment" HIT YOU HARD" studio album really does an injustice to this band. It's so overproduced that I can' t listen to it.I really like the live album, these guy's are "REAL PUNK ROCKERS". The first segment which is great is a little overproduced but it's very listenable. My dad used to party with these guy's in the 70s and he told me there still around and that they have B-FACE on bass who used to be in my favorite band THE QUEERS.I hope they make a c.d of new stuff and pray they do an all ages show in boston." Mastering is a little iffy - otherwise an awesome collection DJ MR Smith | Seattle | 01/12/2009 (4 out of 5 stars) "This two disc set compiles three separate releases into one nifty volume:
disc 1, 1-9 = "Outta Place" 1982 disc 1, 10-20 = "All Kinds Of Jerks Live" 1983 disc 2, 1-10 = " Hit you Hard 1983 These are really terrific records. The Real Kids' combination of power pop and punk, with garage band sensibilities, made them one of my favorites of the era. There is really not a bad track anywhere here with my personal favorites being "Can't Talk To That Girl", "No Place Fast", "Small Town", "She", "She's A Mess" and "Some Love". The sound is perfectly OK for casual listening. However, paying closer attention to detail, it seems that this set may have been mastered from vinyl LPs(!). There are quite a few higher frequency clicks throughout both discs. The tracks from the Outta Place album are all available with better sound on the Norton CD called No Place Fast, which also adds the Taxi Boys EP. I'd still buy this set for their Hit You Hard album, as I haven't seen any other CD release of the material. And, as I mentioned, the sound is definitely OK. One more note - the booklet is entirely in French. " |
