"Ray Viera has it right. He did not fall into the trap of getting a bunch of great musicians and simply doing the same thing that everyone does.



Instead he injects a well deserved does of Jibaro into his salsa project. The guiro is all over the place, and there is an emphasis to use less timbal than most bands. The aptly named elephant brass with all trombones is swinging hard similarly to the likes of Willie Colon, Eddie Palmieri, and Mon Rivera. The cuatro makes an appearance on two tracks, one of them an amazing live performance, the other a salsafied Puertorican jibaro seis rhythm.



The end result is almost like if Willie Colon's Asalto Naviden~o band decided to record a straight up salsa dura album. And in fact Yomo Toro, who played in that album plays the cuatro on this one too."
