"Absolutely the "REALLEST" album around. Ray Luv's lyrical abillity is tremoundous. Brotha Brota Sista Sista, Ray Luv prolifically laces the track with motivation and inpiration to the youth. Destiny and Ambition, Coup D'Etat, Get Atcha, My Attitude, Ray Luv basically informs you of his intellect and plan of "coming up"--which is in motion as you read this--ceasing the rap nation, and becoming a successful rap artist as well as a business man (the theme of the album hence Coup D'Etat). Chasing Heaven Raising Hell, Ray Luv pays his dues to former partner Tupac A. Shakur in a very appropriate and respectful manner. Other tracks, such as Crazy, Sittin' In My Load, Screams, Hard Times, Would You Die For Me, Ray Luv demonstrates his uncanny gift-to-gab as an unique, sic-@ss lyricist, with finesse and game. As a true representator of West 9th & Link, Santa Rosa, California, the Big E.S. "puts-it-down" on this one with much heart (with the help of other fellow dope Bay Area rappers/artists: ANT D.O.G., XXX, Eddie "E.D. The Bandit" Lascala, Diz, Yonni, Chris, San Quinn & Messy Marv, Porter House, etc). As I said previously, Ray Luv's Coup D'Etat is one of the REALLEST albums around. If only he had a web-site?"

"Ray Luv is one of the tighest rappers around and his flow is untouchable. Ever since "get ma money on" back in 1992, Ray Luv has developed his game and grown into a playa full of dope lyrics and flair. His style is similar to that of 2pac, being that they were once in a group called "Strictly Dope" (appropriately titled for the both of them). He is up and coming and should have blown up a long long time ago. He spits straight game. Be on the look out for Ray Luv."
A great, yet unfortunately slept-on album!

"Ray Luv's "Coup D'Etat" was one of the best albums to come out in 1999, and that was a very strong year for West Coast rap overall. After the classic "Forever Hustlin'" which was released on legendary producer Khayree's label "Young Black Brotha" (once a home to Ray Luv, Young Lay, Dubee, Mac Mall and of course Mac Dre), Ray Luv started his own label Big Eddie and that was the first record. Ray Luv showed on this album that he's a rapper with tremendous talent and charisma. In many ways he's like 2Pac, in terms of delivery and topics they rap on. It's so obvious they worked together. And speaking about Pac - Ray Luv is actually one of the very very few rappers that were actually CLOSE with Pac! They formed a group when they were still teenagers, and developed their rapping skills. And still, unlike all those wanna-be 2Pac-di#@-riders, Ray Luv hardly mentions his connection with Pac (while he could easily mention him on every second song) - he mentions it only on the second verse of one song, (the song "Chasin Heaven Rasin' Hell") and that's it. I found it real dope that Ray didn't try to cash in from his friendship with 2Pac... You gotta respect that. However, back to the album. Ray Luv shows that he's a multi-dimensional artist on this album - he goes gangsta on some songs, playa on one song, and he also gets more personal on a few songs, adressing his life and some social issues as well (especially on the touching "Brotha Brotha Sista Sista"). The production is very good on most songs, even though he didn't work with known producers, prefering to produce himself with a few in-house producers, and the beats are tight Bay Area music. The guest appearences aren't that special, other than Messy Marv and San Quinn, the guests aren't well-known. Most of the album is Ray Luv by himself so it's all good. So, the bottom line is, that "Coup D'Etat" is a GREAT album by one of Bay Area's most talented rappers. It's a shame Ray Luv didn't blow up like he should've, but this doesn't mean you can't enjoy this efford.

Ray Luv: here to save the game

"Ray Luv's latest album, Coup D'Etat, is a great album. Ray's lyrical ability is tremendous and it is obvious that he and 2pac used to write poetry and rap together. This album shows that Ray can do it on his own. This is the first release off of his Big Eddie Records. This album picks up right after his last album, Forever Hustlin'(a 5 star classic, and the best album that not enough people have). Ray is the most under rated MC out in the rap game. Everything he puts out is top quality. He is a breath of fresh air in the recycled state that hip hop is in. Every rap fan who enjoys artists like 2pac, E-40, Mac Dre, Mac Mall... should definitely look in to Ray Luv. If he had the right promotion, he would be a house hold name, that's how good he is. Be on the look out for his new one coming in 2000."
