CD Reviews

One of the finest, a true master i n Ravel

(5 out of 5 stars)

"Having owned 6 recordings in Ravel, this one easily ranks in my top 4 favs. Essential set for fans of Ravel's magnificient writing for piano.

Did not care for either Francois nor Cadadesus. Both are over rated, hyped. Hyped because these are the 2 most often talked up. Some people just can't seem to move on, but must remain stuck in a past they cannot let go of.

Ravel wrote the most beautiful and interesting music for piano solo, along with his comrade, Debussy. Ravel is the true spiritual heir to the romantic tradition for piano. Ravel learned from Chopin and has attained what i believe to be the fullness and flowering of that tradition.

Rouvier does not rush things, great attention to deatils and meaning have gone into his recording.

Here you get Ravel's masterpieces performed as they should be with extremely high understanding in nuanmce and superbly tech mastery. .

Ravel, one of the greatest in keyboard compositions, who represents the flowering of the romantic tradition.

Look at my reviews of my other 3 favorites in Ravel, Roge, Bavouzet, Tharaud. These 3 along with Rouvier are the finestest of the 7 recordings I owned. All connect deeply to the spirit and soul of Ravel.
