Synopsis

Product Description
The Complete Orchestral works including: Tzigane, Piano Concerto in G major & Piano Concerto for the Left Hand D major.

This is the first release by celebrated Tonhalle-Orchester Zurich together with young, stellar conductor Lionel Bringuier, who took on the leadership as principal conductor and music director in 2014/2015.

All of Ravels orchestral works in one box including the popular piano concertos and famous Tzigane, performed by Yuja Wang and Ray Chen.

The Tonhalle-Orchester Zürich, having roots that reach back to 1868, has a rich recording tradition proven by the fifty seminal recordings it made during the Zinman years. Among its awards for these releases have been a Midem Classical Award, an ECHO Classical Music Award and a Record Academy Award.

With Lionel Bringuier the orchestra turns its attention now to Ravel, a composer who marks a new departure in their recording activity for them.

Ravels music has always been part of Bringuiers life and has been closely associated with several decisive stages in his career.

He was only fifteen when he first conducted Boléro with the Orchestre Regional de Cannes.

He won the Besançon International Competition for Young Conductors and also carried off the audience prize at the age of 19, conducting Ravels La valse.

He chose Daphnis et Chloe for his farewell concert after six years as resident conductor with the Los Angeles Philharmonic.

About the new Ravel project and the Tonhalle-Orchester Zurich he says: It was fascinating to hear the sensitivity that this orchestra brings to Ravel. Among the qualities on which it can draw is great flexibility, which is why I was attracted to the idea of exploring the immensely rich palette of Ravels music with them. Lionel Bringuier

This box grabs the magic of the live performance recorded at the famous Tonhalle Zürich which is classed as one of the best venues in the world in terms of its acoustics (except the piano concertos, Tzigane and Fanfare, which were recorded under studio conditions in the Tonhalle venue.)

Some of Ravels orchestral works are real hits (like La Valse, Bolero, Sheherazade, Pavane, etc.) and this is a new, fresh approach to this beautiful, impressionistic repertoire that will appeal to a very wide audience.
