CD Reviews"ANIMAL" strikes again!, lets get the metal party started!!! Nikiforos V. Skoumas | Athens Greece, Cambridge UK | 10/28/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "It is arguable that the success of "W.A.S.P." in the early days was primarily based on their unique ability to combine raw, cannibalistic attitude with the essence of party glam metal; this was directly portrayed through the sound of their early albums. With "Virus" Randy Piper effectively recaptures "W.A.S.P."'s success formula. Its predecessor "Violent new Breed" (2006) was immediately embraced and appraised by WASP fans probably because of its uncompromising aggression, huge choruses, unreserved foul language and that sensational darkness it delivered. So how does one follow up an album which is already considered by many a classic? Simply by retaining the well established "Animal" line up and delivering a set of back to back song-thrillers; indeed, the opening track "Cardiac Arrest" is probably the best warning of the gore party that is about to follow. "Can't Stop" is probably the most catchy, potential metal hit you will come across this winter, guaranteed to blend in any party (metal or otherwise). Furthermore, the album is relentless; up to track 5 "Unnatural High" there is no evidence of "Animal" slowing down or taking a break from its feast. By the time you reach track 7 you will probably feel tired as "Virus" is so loud, heavy and provoking all of which make it impossible to swallow on first play. So although as good as "...New Breed", "Virus" is a much more optimistic, fun orientated album, definitely not a showcase of blackness, pain, and insanity (this being the recipe for the first two "RP Animal" albums). Rest assured, if you enjoyed "Violent New Breed", you can't go wrong with "Virus". "Power Play" UK magazine (issue 104) marks this album with 7/10 commenting: "This is a blistering set of 80s influenced but modern sounding commercial metal..."" Great melodic metal M. Soderberg | 11/20/2008 (5 out of 5 stars) "This is an awesome album with hard, melodic metal. If you long for the days of WASP, Ratt etc in their heyday, this is for you! One of the albums I've listened to over and over again in the last few months, not that common in today's music climate..." Great stuff for the 80's metal heads Gregg Downs | The Great Mid-West | 12/31/2008 (4 out of 5 stars) "This cd packs a real punch. Melodic, heavy, great SINGER ( sounds like a mix between BLACKIE LAWLESS and RONNIE JAMES DIO ) HEAVY GUITAR and some great production too.
I found this band after searching for some older stuff from WASP and realized that this is RANDY PIPERS band. ( formerly from WASP ) I liked all of the trax on this cd and would recommend this for all of you 80's METAL HEADS. The chorus' are realy catchy and have that 80's METAL frenzy that most of us have been missing. One of the things I realy like about this is the lyrics have more than just one topic. Most of the 80's stuff was just all about sex, thats fine when you're 16 but most of us have grown and so has our taste for topics. The song titles are as fallows CARDIAC ARREST CANT STOP DONT WANNA DIE CRYING EAGLE UNNATURAL HIGH JUDGEMENT DAY WHOS NEXT ZOMBIE ( cover tune ) shoot to kill l.u.s.t. DO a search for this cd on amazon and listen to the samples that are provided you will NOT be disapointed!! RANDY PIPER ROCKS ! I think that ANIMAL's best stuff is yet to come.I can see them doing a c.d. in the near future that will be theyre best of all time." |
