Album DescriptionRandy Parsons & Friends new CD:
"Go Ahead and Love Someone" "Go Ahead and Love Someone," a compact disc of new songs and acoustic guitar instrumentals by East Hampton, New York Songwriter/Guitarist Randy Parsons will be released on December 1, 2002. While Parsons wrote the music and lyrics and plays acoustic guitar on the eleven tracks on the CD, eight other performing and recording artists collaborated with him on the new recording, including: Nancy Atlas, Lauren Coen, Marlon Saunders, Peter Valentine and George Wurzbach on vocals; Mike Mandel on keyboards and synthesizer; Johnny Blood on electric bass and electric guitar; and Rick Salter on percussion. Almost like a book of short stories, the songs, recorded in Springs, Bridgehampton and in midtown Manhattan, fit an adult contemporary format. Musically, they represent a fusion of pop, blues, folk and jazz, with well-crafted lyrics, quality musicianship and some of today?s best young vocalists. The CD begins with "Sweet Motion" a bluesy song about a young woman?s road trip from New York to L.A. where she hopes to find a better life. "Lucia Walk on the Beach" (track 2) is a song of unrequited love on a Caribbean Island with a decidedly island feel. Go Head and Love Someone is a hauntingly beautiful song about not letting life pass you by. In addition to being the title track, two distinctly different arrangements of this song are included on the CD. The first, track 3, is a piano-vocal with Lauren Coen?s beautiful, clear voice on the lead vocal. The second version (track 11) has more rock in it, with Peter Valentine giving a male perspective on the lyric. See which one you like better, the musicians decided to include them both. In "Harbor Light" (track 4) a sailor tries to find his way home. A lonely fiddle played by Mike Mandel punctuates this jazz influenced pop ballad. "The Sooner the Better (Situation Red)" (track 5) has an R&B feel and allows vocalist Marlon Saunders to stretch out a bit and show why he?s one of the most sought after studio musicians and live performers around. "Leavin? Home" (track 6) opens a window into the mixed emotions a young woman feels about being on her own for the first time. "New Found Stranger" (track 7), a guitar based piece reminiscent of early Crosby, Stills and Nash, tells of a chance meeting between two strangers on a train. Track 8 and 9 are songs without words: two acoustic guitar instrumentals played by Parsons. The first, "White and Blue" is a blues solo. "On the Other Hand," the second, is a more melodic, moody, new age style piece with several layers of acoustic guitars. "If You Go" (track 10) describes the dilemma of a young Tennessee couple, when one wants to leave the place where they both grew up. Finally, track 10 is the more electric version of "Go Ahead and Love Someone" with Peter Valentine taking the lead vocals to a different place and Johnny Blood?s electric guitar solo providing an upbeat ending to the CD. The CD is available at Long Island Sound Music Stores in Southampton and East Hampton, New York, or on the Internet at Amazon.com or CDBaby.com. ("Go Ahead and Love Someone" Randy Parsons & Friends).
