A lovely and overlooked work for the Christmas season.

"Bravo to the individual that thought this work was worth recording! I have been waiting for a recording of this work for 30 years, ever since I was fortunate enough to hear Randall Thompson himself conduct it at my church many years ago! In many ways, the recording came up to expectations. The instrumentalists were excellent. Thought that the tenor was a bit too oepratic in nature; the vibrato seemed to detract from the melodic line. The soprano who performed the two lovely pieces (Magnificat and Lullaby) was absolutely superb. There are also several pieces included at the end of the work in order to round out the disc that are also quite worth hearing. It is amazing to me that this work is not performed more instead of the huge, bombastic extravaganzas that many churches believe they must have in order to get the point of the Christmas story across. Hopefully this recording will encourage more church choirs to give this work its well-deserved place in the great repertoire of church music. I hope that many others will buy this work and enjoy a piece that so beautifully frames the text of the announcement and birth of Jesus."
Thank You, Randall Thompson!

"THANK YOU, RANDALL THOMPSON! Of 20th century American composers, Randall Thompson is inexplicably underperformed and underappreciated. I love this recording. I usually just like really ancient music (medieval, Renaissance, and Baroque), but Randall Thompson's music is the exception; I love it even though it is modern."
Remarkable ensemble, remarkable composition
