Jerome Kern's Music: So Sweet And Magical
Rebecca*rhapsodyinblue* | CA USA | 01/29/2006
(5 out of 5 stars)

""Jerome Kern devoted all his lifetime to giving the world something it needs, and knows it needs - beauty." ~ Oscar Hammerstein II ~

"The Way You Look Tonight," "The Song Is You," "All The Things You Are," "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes," "A Fine Romance," "Long Ago And Far Away," "Yesterdays," "I Won't Dance," "The Last Time I Saw Paris," "Pick Yourself Up" and "Why Was I Born?" are the most notably beautiful works of a brilliant and my all-time favorite theatrical and popular music composer, Jerome Kern, who was given the highest recognition in the music world - the Hall of Fame Award for composing some of the finest melodies that we always enjoy listening to and for being one of the most prolific tunesmiths of all-time. He was better known as the "Granddaddy of American Musical Theatre" for his greatest works such as "Show Boat," "Music In The Air" and "Swing Time," to name a few.

The talented Ralph Sharon Trio did an awesome job in reviving twenty-four Jerome Kern's gems in this CD - a recording so faithful and justifiable to the timeless music of the composer-extraordinaire. It's a great tribute to the magical charms of Jerome Kern's musical compositions by the trio of fine musicians headed by pianist/arranger, Ralph Sharon, with drummer Jack Parnell and bass player Lennie Bush.

The best tracks and my personal favorites are: "The Song Is You," "All The Things You Are" and a medley of "A Fine Romance," "Pick Yourself Up" and "The Way You Look Tonight." The track that strikes me most is "Smoke Gets In Your Eyes." My feeling for this memorable tune is so entrancing and I simply love its soothing effect to my listening sensibility.

The trio's finale is "Jerome Alone," which was composed by Ralph Sharon as his very own ultimate tribute to the great composer.

Enjoy the magic of Jerome Kern's music and delight with Ralph Sharon Trio's splendid performances.

"The best, most beautiful, and most perfect way that we have of expressing a sweet concord of mind to each other is by music." ~ Jonathan Edwards (1703-1758) ~

Keep on listening!
