CD Reviews

The voice still charms the world!
02/09/2001
(5 out of 5 stars)

"Those words written of the voice of the great Kabaivanska are as true today as they were when first written several years ago! This CD is stellar in every respect. It is worth the price if only to hear this most remarkable artist sing the stirring "Giusto ciel en tal periglia" from Rossini's "L'assendio di Corinto." Her execution of the ornamentations in this beautiful aria are a superb tribute to the artists dedication to the proper interpretations of the period. Equally exquisite is her interpretation of Violetta's heart-breaking aria, "Addio del passato," from Verdi's "La Traviata." La Kabaivanska shows her peerless interpretation of characters on CD, almost to the extent she shows them on stage or film. She is as flirtations as Musetta as she is tragic as Adrianna Lecourveur and as desireable as Hana. The orchestra conducted by Maestro Nino Bonavolonta is beautifully balanced. For anyone who love beautiful singing, there is none more beautiful than Raina Kabaivanska. It is a sadness that she is not sought after in this country. She is one of the most admired singers in Europe. After hearing this CD and others, it is easy to understand why she has every award Italy has to offer. She is, truly, Raina Divina! Do not let this one slip by. G.K. Brown, DMA Prof. of Music,Ret."
