Album Description

Rahim Al Haj began playing the oud at age nine. It was evident early on that he had a gift. He is a graudate of the prestigious Baghdad Conservatory, where he studied under the great Munir Bashir andSalim Abdul Kareem. Rahim is among the most accomplished oud players of his generation. His original compositions delicately introduce modern concepts into the tradition of Iraqi oud playhing. This CD is a compilation of Rahim's compositions reflecting his feelings for his country, Iraq, his city, Baghdad, its people and its rich Sumerian past.

"I have seen Rahim Alhaj perform and this CD is one way to keep his wonderful concert with me always. He is one of the best oud players in the world and plays with so much emotion and skill that it is breathtaking. This CD focuses on songs about Iraq and his hometown of Baghdad and in the current situation, a better understanding of the Arab culture and incredible musical talents of that culture, like Rahim Alhaj, is a must. Rahim talks about his hope for peace, for freedom for the Iraqi people, and of personal hope, loss, and pain. This CD is one of my favorite and I've given it to many friends as a gift as well."
