Keeping The British End Up

"Speedhorn's latest is certainly raging and often quite brilliant. The opening track sets out the stall with a fierce short sharp blast of pure aggressive metal before "Scraping The Resin" makes it clear that these guys have a lot of pent up energy to unleash. Whist the vocals are growled, the music is not so much thrash as many others have said, but straightforward pure heavy metal in the tradition of Motorhead, albeit played with a white hot searing intensity. The album does dip a little in the middle as the pace eases up and the band try out their Sabbath riffs. It's not that they don't pull it off, just that others (including Sabbath!) do it better. Fortunately they quickly return to the aural assualt they do best, meaning that there are enough quality moments to justify a 5 out of 5 rating. There are plenty of bands around at the moment who have perfected the angry sound but few who sound as if they had so much fun doing it. That statement is not as much of a contradiction as it sounds. Do yourself a favour, pick up a copy and see what I mean."
