Pleasant but not memorable

"An artificial "reunion," the album was masterminded by a record company huckster desperate to reverse the omens of Quicksilver's fading popularity and musical quality. Nevertheless, there are enough good tunes -- "Gypsy Lights," "Bittersweet Love," "I Heard You Singing," "Flames" -- to wash out the bad taste left by QMS's dismal previous recording. It's great to have Cipollina back in the mix too, but, ironically, it's Duncan who has most of the best solos."
Solid Silver Is More Than Solid

"With its roots in the San Fransico sound of the 60s, Quicksilver Messenger Service built a strong following of music fans. Their sound was unique and distinctive. From Shady Grove, What About Me, Happy Trails, and others, the Quicksilver sound was unmistakable. Though elements of that sound remain in place, Solid Silver provides the listener a slightly different version of Quicksilver. The album more closely resembles Poco than Jefferson Airplane. An almost country-rock sound is what one finds with many of the cuts from the album. My first copy of the album was on 8-track. I found myself listening so often to the album that the breaks between tracks are still etched in my memory. The songs are soothing, melodic, and clean. Whether the day is bright with sunshine, or cold and rainy, this album will fit the mood perfectly."
