"Dirty Dozen by Push Button Objects is essentially the Cash EP and Half Dozen EP, he , Edgar Farinas, released under his label Chocolate Industries and Schematic of Miami. The Cash EP was released in 1997 and the Half Dozen EP was released the same year as Dirty Dozen in 2000. So essentially there are some older tracks on here, namely Lockligger, Striffle, Missing and Maercs. But thats not to say that other tracks werent written around the same time of the former. My point is there are some older tracks on here. This is not a dated album though, and it actually sounds great still. This album is hip hop, essentially, but there is something else that pushes these tracks into a gray area of classification. Dont expect 50 Cent style hip hop, its more of a laid back, chilled out hip hop. Also there arent any lyrics, maybe samples of lyrics but nothing concrete. I like this, but it might distrack someone looking for a vocalist. I found this release via my liking of Phoenecia, the label heads for Schematic. For anyone who is into Autechre or likes chilled out beats mixed with some hip hop / glichy music will love this album. It more resembles Autechre's Envane EP but could also be compared to EP 7 in its hip hop influence. Fans of Prefuse 73 should get this. Prefuse 73 makes music much in the same vein as PBO. My only critique is that Edgar Farinas should release some more stuff. Essentially there is this, a more straight forward hip hop album called Ghetto Blaster on Chocolate Industries and an EP on Skam - and thats it from Mr. Farinas. I would love to see something new from Push Button Objects.
